56K and the USR 33.6k Sportster (Voice & Non-Voice) After several attempts and many helpful hours from our users, we think / hope that we have a solution to the troubles that 33.6k Sportster users have been experiencing with the new 56k modems we have installed at several of our POP's. Explanation
The .INF file contains the basic initialization strings for the specific modem. It also tells Windows95 how to deal with the modem. There have been some modifications to that file, and it appears to have improved Windows95's handling of the modem.
The Init string tells the modem to do the following:
The major settings in this string are the two S??=. They seem to be the key to the solution but the entire process seems to prove the most successful.
